The Compass brand was created by a Lloyd's Syndicate in 1986, becoming a separate Underwriting Agency in 1992. In 1997 Compass adopted its present structure and extended its remit beyond a single Lloyd's Syndicate. Wholly owned by the Directors, Compass is chaired by Ortho Barnes who brings considerable expertise in the development of new businesses, underlining Compass' commitment to incubate start-ups in the insurance sector. Compass Underwriting is one of the UK's leading independent Accident and Health underwriting agencies working with a wide range of UK and European insurers, as well as some key members of the Lloyd's market. We place business and manage claims in addition to the services detailed below.
Compass provides full-cycle administrations services to established and start-up companies. This extends to IT and accounting services as well as regulatory support. We also specialise in designing and placing new products for businesses seeking to expand into new areas.
Compass seeks to promote your brand, not its own, so we white label most of the new products we develop, supporting our clients as they build their businesses.
We have developed a fully hosted toolkit of IT solutions which can be used by our clients. It allows you access to your own in-house fulfilment system generating quotes, the automatic issue of policy and regulatory documents as well as premium collection by direct debit or monthly premium finance. Additionally it will provide management information and report on the performance of your products.
In accordance with best practice, Compass has comprehensive business continuity planning such as an external office outside the M25 and a fully virtual system accessible anywhere in the World.
Compass is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under Firm Reference No.304908 and is a member of the British Insurance Brokers Association and the Managing General Agents' Association.
Our Registered office is Brierly Place, New London Road, Chelmsford. Essex CM2 0AP and we are registered in England under no. 3332314.
